Mark Hineman, meanwhile, has not shown us a depth of knowledge of the district or education. For example, he told us he "didn't know enough of the specifics" of the No Child Left Behind Act. He should know more. So we endorse all the incumbents: Speckard, Bragaw, Perkins and Pinney.

Dist. 214 board members back newcomer
March 4, 2009
By Sheila Ahern
Daily Herald
If the District 214 school board were high school, Leslie Pinney would probably be eating lunch by herself in the cafeteria. This week, three of Pinney's fellow board members announced they are backing someone else for her seat in April's election. "This doesn't surprise me at all," Pinney wrote. "I am someone who is willing to speak up, and they find that inconvenient. They don't want anyone who asks questions."

Taxi trips raise questions for District 214 The Herald article leaves a number of questions to be answered. With board members Lenore Gonzales Bragaw, Jim Perkins and Leslie Pinney willing to sign the minutes as being accurate, what do Bill Dussling, Bob Zimmanck and Miriam Cooper have to hide from the voting public? Board member Alva Kreutzer did not attend this meeting. The article stated that the auto dealer was the only bidder for the $104,000 contract. We need to know how many other dealers were requested to quote and what their names are. It is hard to believe that any auto dealer would reject a request for quotation based on their present economic situation. If Sheila Ahern would have the opportunity to interview the other dealers she might ask why they didn't bid. Superintendent David Schuler vowed to research what happens when a school board doesn't approve meeting minutes. Actually four individuals approved, the person that wrote them and the three that are willing to sign them. I am of the opinion that the Daily Herald should be allowed to print the unsigned minutes as long as it is clearly stated that they are not approved by all of the voting members. Without publishing all-inclusive information about this debacle, the district and the board are encouraging the voters and taxpayers to consider the title question, Pay to play at High School District 214? After adding a paragraph, the District 214 school board finally approved meeting minutes that were almost a month old on Thursday. Board member Alva Kreutzer abstained last time, but she said she was ready to vote this week after listening to a recording of the March 6 meeting. "It was what was said," Kreutzer said of controversial remarks some members had wanted struck from the minutes.

The Daily Herald article, "Sparks fly over campaign contributions at meeting" informs us that board members Bill Dussling, Bob Zimmanck and Miriam Cooper refused to sign the minutes of their March 6 meeting. We are also informed that a local auto dealer made a contribution to the campaigns of board members Alva Kreutzer, Bill Dussling and Bob Zimmanck, and the question whether the board should award a $104,000 contract to this dealer was discussed.

In the Daily Herald's endorsement of Stan Eisenhammer, a statement was made that is based on an uninformed approach to the words "practical and economical. Eisenhammer's view that "a continuing relationship that provided access to park district pools was a more practical, economical approach" is neither practical nor economical when the effected (sic) communities are taken into consideration.
